The Band

I first heard of the band Author when my friend told me about a Youtube channel called Audiotree Live. I was instantly drawn to the song Doubt due to some things I was dealing with at the time. It became one of those songs that was just on repeat because there was never a more accurate sound to describe how I was feeling. I then began to branch out into their other music. Their sound is very cinematic to me providing tons of images. That's easily what gets me listening to a band, songs that have such a deep feel to them that a story or pictures begin to take place in my head.

Check out their song 'Wander' and all their other music on Youtube and Spotify, follow them on Facebook, keep an eye out for tour dates; they're incredibly talented.

The Collaboration

Reaching out I asked received some answers based on inspiration for the song 'Wander'. From there I was able to piece together a blend of their thoughts and mine.

Song Choice: Wander. It's a song all about finding what's going on in your life and what your purpose is and not ever fully knowing.

Important Lyrics: The main words are definitely "Where am I?"

My Interpretation

When it came time to put on my giant headphones and block out the world, all I heard was blues. Very soothing, gentle, but also with some dark undertones. There is so much movement in their songs that I needed the paint to convey that. A flat graphic wouldn't cut it for them.

I love the simplicity in this, I definitely will be playing around more with this look in the future.

I just pictured those days where you stare out a window when raining, not even particularly thinking. "Back again, the walls inside my head" so I played with perspective a little, creating the illusion of this wide  open space, that also could double as the corner of a room keeping you trapped. The whole lyric "where am I?" being repeated reminded me of that feeling when you aren't sure if you're awake or asleep, for a good thirty seconds there is no grip on what is real.

They absolutely nailed the feelings in the song, and I decided to use this whimsical looking light post as sort of this unattainable beacon, never fully knowing where it's located.

The Final

Here is the final version of my rendition of 'Wander.' I highly recommend everyone go give their music a listen, especially if feeling particularly introspective. Thank you so much to Author taking the time to be part of the project.
